Finally a Bollywood film was able to top Indian Box Office in last month and a half. Sachin A Billion Dreams topped the chart while Baahubali 2 is not done yet registering second place. Overall a decent Weekend of Biggest Month ever at Indian Box Office, May 2017.
Sachin opened as well as Sachin Tendulkar use to open for India. It grossed ₹34.4cr on 2400 screens stateside. Film performed well above the expectations which weren’t high probably because film is not an usual feature film but a docu-drama and historically India isn’t market for the genre. In overseas film remained low with $900k Approx weekend.
In second place, Baahubali 2 grossed ₹25.8cr Approx in its 5th weekend taking its cume par ₹1274.25cr. Film is now heading towards ₹1300cr in India which will be more than 2.5 times the previous biggest grosser Dangal. Also read comparison of film with Dangal.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 had an average weekend with a flat trend. Film grossed ₹19.3cr or $2.96mn in its 1st Weekend on 1200 screens. A much bigger debut was expected from film considering the last film in franchise itself grossed ₹15cr or $3.4mn 6 years back. Since then market for Hollywood films in India has grown manifold with introduction of more 3D and IMAX screens along with more exposure to Foreign films.
Best hold from Holdovers come from Hindi Medium which dropped mere 3.8% from 1st weekend grossing ₹14.11cr for a 10 days total of ₹42.36cr. Additional $1.3mn or ₹8.3cr from Overseas take its global Cume at ₹50.65cr.
