Dangal of the Box Office Baahubalis

In mere 24 days of release in China, Dangal reclaimed its title of world’s biggest Indian film from Baahubali The Conclusion, who held it for a rather short period of 25 days. Once again it’s an Aamir Khan film at top, which is a routine affair now since December 2008 barring two exceptions in form of Chennai Express (August – December 2013) and Baahubali 2 recently.

Dangal added $10.58mn in its 4th weekend in China which take its cume in Middle Kingdom at $129.48mn. This took the worldwide gross to ₹1582.2cr, ahead of Baahubali 2’s ₹1565.13cr. Baahubali 2 however is yet to release in Far East while Dangal will be releasing in other 3 Far Eastern countries Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan later this year.

Comparing the two, Baahubali 2 is bigger force Domestically and technically in regular overseas market but its China which makes the big difference. Following is the region wise classification of both films, the bold number denoting the Bigger grosser.

Far East ₹866cr

America ₹84.43cr

Middle East ₹59.8cr

Dangal is looking at $160-165mn closing in China which will be placing its global tally at ₹1750-1785cr while a ₹1600cr finish for Baahubali 2 is likely before 2nd round of overseas release. Say Dangal grosses another $10mn or ₹65cr in remaining Far East countries, its lead will raise to ₹215-250cr or around $33-38mn which is a big amount for Baahubali 2 to cover. It implies that Dangal may remain Biggest grosser in long run.
