There was no new wide release in gone weekend and so were the box office returns. It was another dull weekend before that big Eid weekend which will start flow of big releases till early October. There was a big Final of ICC Champions Trophy on Sunday which further downed the weekend which already was dull.
As was expected, Diljit Dosanjh starrer Super Singh topped the box office chart with a rather low ₹7.1cr on 350 locations. It was first time in history that a Punjabi film topped Indian Box Office but that is the only positive for the film. Film is a bigger disappointment in overseas where it grossed a wimpy $275k on some 130 locations, for a global cume of ₹9.2cr. Budgeted at ₹15cr it doesn’t look like will see the green.
Closely at 2nd was Universal’s Despicable Me 3 grossing ₹6.6cr or $1.02mn in it’s 1st weekend which is a decent start for a animation title but what makes it better is that this come in competition of another animated flick Pixar’s Car 3 which secured 4th rank with ₹5.8cr or $900k. In 3rd was YRF’s heist comedy Bank Chor which grossed ₹6.2cr on 622 locations. Maragatha Naanayam secured 5th place with ₹4.5cr gross over the weekend.
