Baahubali on Friday created history becoming first film to gross ₹100cr single day in India. Though film was expected to achieve that benchmark but it crossed even the most optimistic expectations from the film. Friday was historic but it’s Saturday collection and trend which once again raised eyebrows.
Film grossed an estimated ₹101 cr on its 2nd day in India which was down mere 23% from Day 1. This is when even a 30% would have been considered excellent. Film remained on Friday level in Northern markets while Tamil Nadu and Kerala had minimal drops. AP/TG was expected to drop in excess of 55% but surprised with dropping less than that.
Film now stands at ₹237 cr after 2 days including Thursday Paid Previews in limited screening. Needless to remind film has already crossed the previous weekend record of Dangal ₹149 cr within 1 and half day. Leave all language Cume, Hindi version is going to beat Dangal weekend by a margin of ₹25cr approx.
Film has crossed ₹300cr mark Globally with $17mn (₹110 cr) approx coming from international markets till Saturday with film chasing lifetime record of Dangal in Australia and US (not including Canada) by Sunday.
2 days collection of film in India presage a gigantic ₹350cr plus weekend. There is a holiday on Monday and if film continue performing at this level we will have Biggest Grosser ever by end of 1st week in India and Worldwide by 2nd Friday. Though on 5th May Dangal releases in China but that is unlikely to change things as Baahubali would have enough gas left to outscore whatever Dangal do there.
