Baahubali The Conclusion Has Historic Opening Day In India

Couple of days back when we said that you will run short of fingers for counting records created by Baahubali The Conclusion, we meant that and now looking at the numbers film put yesterday you may need to borrow few hands for that. Baahubali started like a runaway train breaking every block which ultimately closed the day like a rocket putting numbers in space (sky high is understatement).

Speaking maths, Final part of Baahubali blasted ₹132.8cr on it’s 1st Friday from 4,800 theaters (Approximately 6,700 screens). This includes ₹66.5 Lacs from IMAX format which obviously is a record. As for the comparison to the 2nd best Opening, one has to look more than half down to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’s ₹54.2cr Gross. Leave the 2nd best, opening day  gross is 26% more than 2nd & 3rd Best (Sultan ₹50.5cr) combined.

Top 5 Highest Opening days in India are as below

  1. Baahubali The Conclusion : ₹132.8cr
  2. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo : ₹54.2cr
  3. Sultan : ₹50.5cr
  4. Happy New Year : ₹50.2cr
  5. Kabali : ₹47.5cr

It is only 2nd time this decade that Single Day record is broken on a Non Holiday, with other being Dhoom 3 in 2013 on its Opening Friday. Film is also 1st to cross ₹100cr in Single Day and obviously fastest. It’s not much time back when Happy New Year became 1st to cross ₹50cr mark. Doubling a major benchmark over period of two and half years isn’t something we usually witness.

Film is released in 4 Languages across India and all 4 opened with huge numbers. AP/Nizam become 1st distribution territory to gross ₹40cr (₹44.76cr gross) in Single day. Northern market were historic grossing ₹54.5cr (₹39.5cr Nett) beating PRDP’s ₹49cr. Film had highest opening day ever in Karnataka & Kerala grossing ₹15.5cr and ₹5.5cr respectively. Tamilnadu managed 2nd highest opening of year despite having release issue in morning grossing ₹12.45cr approx.

Our weekend prediction of Baahubali 2 of ₹292cr looks like may be in jeopardy of being too low, especially way Northern markets performed. Though everything depends on that Saturday drop. Film will cross that ₹300cr mark if it performs on Saturday and Sunday as we expected. Said that weekend records are gonna broken by a margin of ₹100cr plus, ₹300cr weekend (if happen) will be a bonus.

We will come to know about all this by the Monday morning when Weekend data will be with us and we will be analysing it. Till then tell us your views over the film on our Facebook or Twitter.

Note : We at Cinetrak consider gross as amount actually aggregated on Ticket window. Traditionally Fixed Hires for full run are added one and all in Day one. We believe the amount accruing to full run should be apportioned in same period. In coming days a detailed report would be put on site over this.
